About the Austin Chapter

The Austin Chapter is one of over two dozens of chapters across the country. We are all volunteers because we believe so strongly in Amigos' mission and values. If you are an alumnus currently residing in Austin and would like to be more involved, drop us a line! The Austin Amigos Board of Directors currently meets once a month at Trinity United Methodist Church (4001 Speedway).

 

Austin Amigos Board of Directors 2012-2013
  • pan1Co-President: Ann S. Graham
    Mother of Merek Johnson, 2009 Volunteer in Dominican Republic and current co-training director of the Boston AMIGOS Chapter. Ann is a community and arts activist with over 25 years of experience working in the social profit arena, including co-founding First Night Austin's premiere event in December 2005. She has served in leadership roles for Hyde Park Neighborhood Association, for Lee Elementary, Kealing Middle School and LASA High School and currently serves on the Board of AMIGOS, Creative Action and Liveable City. Her focus on community engagement is integral to building meaningful partnerships that strengthen organizational development.

    Mother of Michela Garrison, 2008 Volunteer in La Paz, Honduras.
  • Secretary: Cheray Ashwill
    Mother of Avery Ashwill, 2010 Volunteer in Dominican Republic.

  • darien1Paperwork Coordinator: Darien Clary (Oaxaca, Mexico 1996 volunteer)
    Studied Biology and Spanish at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas and then received her Master’s degree in Public Health at UT in August of 2008. Prior to moving to Austin, she was a project manager for the Center of Environment, Economy, and Society at Columbia University working on community-based initiatives in the Dominican Republic (that was much more like AMIGOS work!). Currently she works as the Sustainability Coordinator for the Austin Community College District.

    Graduated from UT Austin in 2008. Now works as an ICU nurse in Houston, TX.









  • gibbons.jpgAISD Liaison: Robert Gibbons
    Has taught Spanish for 30 years in Texas public schools. Now teaches in Austin ISD.







  • lynnrubinett.jpgLegal Counsel: Lynn Rubinett
    Mother of Isaac Levy-Rubinett, Honduras 2011 volunteer. Currently works as an attorney and is a mother to three children, ages 22, 19, and 14 and wife to Rick Levy.

    Previously worked with the Correspondent Volunteer Program and Gap Year Program at the International Headquarter in Houston. Now works in fundraising and marketing with the American Cancer Society. Enjoys running, swimming, paddle boarding, baking, cooking, and exploring Austin!

      Training Director      : Chloe Hamilton (Cuzco, Peru 2012 Volunteer)
      Now studies in UT Austin.

      Assistant Training Director      : Jonathan Lehrmann (Costa Rica 2008 and Cocle, Panama 2009 Volunteer)
      Currently a junior at UT Austin. He volunteers with YoungLife at Reagan High School where he also has a part-time job. He also has another part-time job at SRD (Scottish Rite Dormitory, an off-campus girls' dorm) as a waiter. He has been in BYX (Beta Upsilon Chi, the Christian Fraternity) for two years and is active in IM sports and in his church, The Austin Stone. Jonathan is an enthusiast of music, video games, philosophy, and theology.
